Gerard moved to Canada from Ireland in 2001 with his wife Eithne and three sons and now resides in Calgary.

For as long as he can remember he always had an appitude for Art and particularly Drawing and Painting.

He was encouraged by his teachers and mentors while persuing a career in the Graphic Arts specialising in Print reproduction

and Screen printing, point of sale and advertising bill boards. He still continued to educate himself in fine art drawing and painting

through evening courses. Years later as a mature student he attended the National College of Art and Design Dublin Ireland and graduated in 1997

with a B.A. degree in Art and Design Education. He taught Art in the Irish education system prior to comming to Canada and had a sucessful one man show just before he left his native land.

He operates his own business now which give him the flexibility to teach and paint partime. He is passionate about the landscape and particularly proficient as a plein air painter in oils. The intensity and amount of day light and spectaular scenery offered in Alberta in particular is all the ingredients needed for a landscape painter.

He paints and composes larger pieces from some of his outdoor studies in his home based studio and also instructs at the Calgary School of Art. Working from life is an integral part of his growth as Painter, wether its a still life set up, floral or a portrait, Gerard can't emphaise enough the value of it. He is a member of the Leighton Foundation and has exhibited in their Juried shows and also exhibits with the Silhuette Art Group. He has sold his paintings to private collectors in Europe and Canada.
